Lifestyle Photoshoot Tips

Let’s make your session beautiful, effortless, and full of feeling.

Preparing for a lifestyle shoot can feel overwhelming — but it doesn’t have to be. With a few thoughtful choices, you’ll walk into your session feeling confident, comfortable, and ready to capture memories that truly feel like you.

Here are some of my favourite tips to help you show up feeling your best and get those soft, emotional, story-filled images you’ll want to frame forever:

1. Dress for the Mood

Your outfit sets the tone for your whole session. Are we going for cozy and casual? Soft and romantic? Clean and minimal?

Think:

  • Neutrals, earth tones, soft pastels
  • Linen, knits, flowy cotton
  • Layers and textures that add dimension

These tones and textures not only look timeless but also photograph beautifully in natural light — without stealing the spotlight from your connection or story.

2. Why Colour Matters

Colour plays a huge role in how your photos feel.

Softer tones like beige, terracotta, dusty pink, olive, and muted blue:

✔ Work beautifully with most outdoor and indoor locations

✔ Reflect light softly on skin tones

✔ Don’t overpower the image — they let you shine

✔ Help create that dreamy, natural, editorial-style look

Bold or saturated colours can often distract or cast strong colour shadows — so gentle hues really are the magic makers here.

3. What Not to Wear

To keep your images clean, timeless, and full of emotion:

✖ Say no to neon or high-contrast colours — they bounce harsh colour onto your skin

✖ Avoid logos, writing, or busy prints — they draw the eye away from your face

✖ Don’t match outfits too closely — instead, coordinate in tone and texture

✖ Steer clear of harsh black-and-white combos — they can lose detail in photos

If in doubt: keep it simple, soft, and seasonally appropriate.

4. Make It Personal

Want your session to feel more like you? Bring something meaningful along.

Whether it’s a favourite hat, a worn blanket, a picnic basket, your dog, or your morning coffee — props like these give your shoot a relaxed, lifestyle edge and help tell your story in a natural, easy way.

5. Trust the Light

Golden hour — that soft light just after sunrise or right before sunset — is pure magic. It wraps everything in a dreamy, golden glow and adds emotion to every shot.

Trust me: it’s worth the early wake-up or the slightly later start time.

6. Relax — I’ve Got You

You don’t need to know how to pose or what to do with your hands. That’s my job.

I’ll guide you with natural, easy prompts that feel more like movement than posing. You just have to show up, be yourself, and let the magic unfold.

Whether you’re snuggling, laughing, walking barefoot, or twirling in the sunset — I’m here to capture the real you.
